Student Services and Support Programs

​​​Support for Students and Families

The Principal, Deputy Principals, School Co-ordinators, Guidance Officer, Classroom Teachers and Student Support Services are always available to discuss student progress or concerns. Appointments can be made by calling the school on (07) 3816 6333.

Junior Middle and Senior School Coordinator

Junior (Years 7 and 8), Middle (Years 9 and 10) and Senior (Years 11 and 12) School Deans play a significant role in the management of student welfare. They liaise with parent, Pastoral Care and classroom teachers on student welfare issues. They support and implement the colleges Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students. 

The School Deans are located in K Block-Lower Administration Building.

Appointments can be made by students before school or during the lunch breaks. Parents/Guardians can make an appointment in person, at Student Services or by phoning the school on (07) 3816 6333.

Pastoral Care Teachers

Pastoral Care Teachers provide day-to-day contact with students when taking the morning roll.  The Pastoral Care Teacher is charged with the responsibility of taking a personal interest in all aspects of a student’s welfare they foster and monitor the progress of each student in the Care Group by taking a personal interest in the aspirations, demeanour and achievements of each student.  This includes attendance, attitude, dress, grooming, manners, punctuality, teacher-student relations, peer group relations and homework.

Parents should make every effort to forge a close link with Pastoral Care teachers.

Student Support Services

Bundamba State Secondary College is committed to a whole school approach to implementing specialised support services to students and the school community while ensuring students wellbeing, participation and education outcomes are the focus of intervention. Student Support Services is lead by the Head of Student Support Services.

Student Support Services Team and Programs include:

Guidanc Officer

The college Guidance Officer provides personal, educational and vocational counselling support and information to students and the school community where required. All new enrolments are interviewed by the Guidance Officer.

The Guidance Officer is located in Lower Administration Building.

Attendance Team

At Bundamba State Secondary College our objectives and expectations are clear. Every student is to attend school all day, every day. “Every Day Counts”

Community Education Counsellor:  Attendance and Attendance Teacher Aides direct students to school and classes, collate data on daily absences, late to school and class truancy. The teams role is to regularly contact parent/guardians regarding absences and if required support them to access support services within the school. They are also responsible for the preparation of the documentation required by Education Queensland with regard to their absentee policy and procedures for students unexplained poor attendance.

The Attendance Team is located in Lower B Block (next to the Canteen)

Community Education Counsellor

The Community Education Counsellor in collaboration with school staff provide advocacy and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, parent/guardians and the wider community. CEC’s play a key role in our Indigenous Forums, Elders Breakfast, Indigenous Advisory Committee meetings etc.

They assist school staff to provide programs that support increased engagement for all members of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander school community.  Regular collation of student data in the areas of academic outcomes, attendance, and engagement assist to inform the school and community of student needs and achievements.

Pacific Liaison Officer

The Pacifica Liaison Officer in collaboration with school staff provides advocacy and support for Pacifica students, parent/guardians and the wider community.

They assist school staff to provide programs that support increased engagement of all members of the Pacifica Community. (e.g. Pacifica Forums and cultural awareness programs etc). Regular collation of student data in the areas of academic outcomes, attendance, and engagement assist to inform the school and our Pacifica community of student needs and achievements.

Youth Health Nurse

The Youth Health Nurse is available for individual consultations with students, parents/carers and college staff.  These consultations are to provide support with health or personal issues to provide health information and/or referral to appropriate community support and health agencies when indicated.

Chaplain

The School Chaplain is available at our college two days a week.  The chaplain is involved in a range of activities including pastoral care, parent and student programs, community engagement, and camps and promoting positive values.

Success Coach

The Success Coach works with students predominantly from grade 9 who are identified as being "at risk". Factors that could negate students working with the Success Coach are; poor academic performance, poor attendance, poor behaviour and/or extenuating family circumstances.

Youth Support Officer

 The role a state school Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) is to provide support to at-risk students in Years 10 to 12 to remain engaged with their education to enhance their opportunities for further education and sustainable future employment. The role of the YSC will reflect the specific needs of the school.

School Based Traineeships and Transistions Officer

The college offers a wide range of school based traineeships and work experience programs. The role of the SBT and Transistions officer is to advise and promote opportunities to staff and students within the school.
