Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is Bundamba State Secondary College’s behaviour framework.  Its purpose is to create a learning environment which teaches and encourages positive behaviour.  PBL uses preventative teaching and reinforcement-based strategies to achieve meaningful and durable behaviour and wellbeing outcomes.  Key to this are the College’s expectations of Pride, Empowerment, Respect and Responsibility.

BSSC students are taught how to be SUPERRstars (the SUPERR stands for Students Using Pride, Empowerment, Respect and Responsibility) and they are recognised when they do this through being awarded Vivo points, BSSC Postcards, SUPERRstar awards and other rewards.

Implementation of PBL in Bundamba SSC is overseen by the PBL leadership team and is embedded in the College’s Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students.

There are three critical practices to PBL within BSSC:

  • Three tiered approach to support
  • Teaching and recognition of expected behaviours
  • Functional behaviour analysis

The Three Tiers of PBL

Universal – Whole school processes and practices to prevent problem behaviours, these include; Essential Skills, Eight Effective Practices, STARS and the explicit teaching of behaviour expectations.

Targeted – Interventions to support students by targeting problem behaviours identified through analysis of data to reduce existing problem behaviour.

Intensive – High level interventions for students with significant welfare and behavioural issues.
