There are a number of opportunities available to students who excel in their chosen sport. The following flow chart shows the progression from school athlete through to National Representation. Specifically, representative sport offers students the chance to showcase their talents against students from other schools within the Ipswich district, and gain selection into the Metropolitan West, Queensland and National Representative Teams.
IDSSSA (District Sport)
Bundamba State Secondary College is a part of the Ipswich District Secondary School Sporting Association (IDSSSA) which brings together the Secondary State Schools from the Ipswich Region (Bremer SHS, Ipswich SHS, and Boonah SHS) to compete in a range of sports and events. Students have opportunities to represent BSSC at IDISSSA swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals, and also nominate for and attend district trials in a range of individual and team sports.
Over the years, with school pride on the line, an illustrious rivalry between the schools has developed, leading to a wonderful atmosphere for athletes and spectators at the major carnivals.
Students can nominate to attend a district trial in their chosen sport through the sports coordinator. Students who gain selection in the district team then attend the Regional Trials (Metropolitan West) as part of the IDSSSA team.
REGIONAL CARNIVALS & TRIALS
The IDSSSA region competes against 9 other districts at the Regional (Metropolitan West) Carnivals and Trials. These showcase the incredible sporting talents students from the region have to offer. The carnivals and regional trials create a showcase of talent where students are often identified by scouts, coaches or even other schools, allowing them to take their abilities to the next level. Students who perform the best at these competitions gain selection into the Metropolitan West team to compete at the Queensland School Championships.
STATE CARNIVALS & TRIALS
The Metropolitan West Region competes against other regions from around Queensland at various state championship events. Students competing at these tournaments have the opportunity to be selected in Queensland Teams to compete at National Championship Competitions.
